WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. House is ready to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over border security, a deeply partisan and highly unusual attack on a Cabinet official that has drawn concerns from constitutional scholars and rebuke from Democrats. The House vote on the charges, which Democrats say are untrue and hardly grounds for impeachment, is set for Tuesday. “Very clearly Secretary Mayorkas has picked and chosen which laws he's going to enforce,” said Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., the chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, at a hearing ahead of the vote. Green’s committee had been investigating the Homeland Security secretary for much of the past year, but a resolution from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., a Trump ally, pushed it to the fore. Even if Republicans are able to impeach Mayorkas, he is not expected to be convicted in a Senate trial where Republican senators have been cool to the effort.

WASHINGTON, June 21 (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives approved a Republican effort on Wednesday to censure Representative Adam Schiff, a rare move intended to punish the Democrat for his leading role in investigating the conduct of Donald Trump when he was president. In practice, the measure, which was passed 213-209 along party lines, will result in a probe into Schiff by the Ethics Committee. Trump was impeached a second time by the House over his actions leading up to the Jan. 6, 2021, deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol. The House had defeated a separate censure effort against Schiff last week, when 20 Republicans joined 205 Democrats in opposition. The earlier censure effort came with a $16 million fine, since stripped out.

Morrison, who lost power in a general election in May, secretly accumulated five ministerial roles during the pandemic: health, finance, treasury, resources and home affairs. It marks the first time a former prime minister has been censured by parliament, though the motion is symbolic in nature. LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles City Council formally rebuked two members and its former president Wednesday for their involvement in a racism scandal that has led to days of protests, police and state investigations and shaken public faith in City Hall. Earlier, the council meeting was called into recess to allow police to clear chanting protesters. Council President Paul Krekorian warned the protesters they would not deter the council’s business. “We will continue to do the work of the people of Los Angeles,” he said. Krekorian, the president, and other council members have said Cedillo and de León must resign.

The Alaska GOP has rebuked Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for supporting Sen. Lisa Murkowski. Donald Trump and state officials want Murkowski gone for supporting his second impeachment. State officials censured Murkowski for the same thing last summer. "The Alaska Republican Party has just told him to butt out of our state," Tshibaka, who got the Alaska GOP's endorsement in July 2021, told the Post. She added that "the millions of dollars Mitch McConnell is spending on lies about me" could be put to better use elsewhere.
